Game Console Support
The SJC Network welcomes the use of game consoles for on-line gaming, and each student is welcome to register their consoles for use on the network, as they would a laptop or a desktop, via the On-line Computer Registration page.
As you know, you will need to know the MAC address of the device/console in order to register it. Here is a quick breakdown on how to find your console's MAC Address:
PlayStation 3
- Power up the PS3 with no disc in the drive.
- Once the main menu screen appears, select Settings.
- Select System Settings.
- Select System Information. This screen will display your PS3 MAC address.
PlayStation 2
- Load the Network Adapter Start-up Disk, provided with the PS2 Ethernet adapter. Select ISP Setup from the screen. To continue, press the X button on your controller.
- Review the license agreement, and then select Agree and press the X button to continue.
- Choose Local Area Network (LAN) as your connection type. Press the X button to continue.
- Select Automatic Configuration, and then press the X button to continue.
- On the Connection Test screen, select Advanced. Press the X button to continue.
- Under Advanced Broadband Settings, make sure that Automatic is selected. Your MAC address will display at the bottom of the screen.
PlayStation 2 Slim
- With no disk in the drive, turn on the PS2 Slim.
- After the "Browser/System Configuration" options appear on the screen, push the Triangle button on the PS2 controller.
- On the bottom of the Version screen, you'll see the MAC address of the PS2 Slim.
Xbox 360
Note: Installing the New Xbox Experience (NXE) may reset the alternate MAC address, if configured. If your Xbox 360 no longer has network access after installing the NXE, repeat these instructions.
- To access the Xbox Guide, press the Xbox Guide button on the Xbox 360 controller. The Guide button is silver, in the center of the controller, and has a green X on it.
- Press right until you reach the Settings blade.
- Select System Settings, and then Network Settings. If you have installed the NXE
- Select Configure Network, open Additional Settings, and then open the Advanced Settings tab.
- Select Edit Settings, then open Additional Settings, and then Advanced Settings.
- Your MAC address will appear under "Wired MAC Address".
Wii
- Select the Wii button on the lower left side of the main menu.
- Select Wii Settings, and click the arrow on the right side of the screen.
- Select Internet, and then Console Information. Your Wii's MAC address will appear on the screen.
Troubleshooting:
First, we highly recommend the use of a wired connection to connect your consoles to the network. Wired connections are faster, offer lower ping response times, and are less disruptive to those who use the wireless network for non-gaming activities.
Second, if you are having a problem with a wired connection, check to make sure that the data cable is plugged in on each end. If it is still not working, plug a known working computer into the jack you are using and see if it gets an IP address and you are able to get on-line. If the computer works, then you know that you have a working data jack. If this is the case, please contact the manufacturer for support.
Aside from what is written in this page, the Computer Center does not guarantee technical support for game consoles over the SJC network. You are ultimately responsible for all setup and configuration of game consoles.
