Internships
are one of the best ways to gain practical experience in your career
interests. Internship experiences are not only great resume builders,
but many full-time opportunities can also be found through such experience.
Internships are mutually beneficial to students and employers because they
allow the opportunity for students to determine if specific career fields and/or
companies are right for them and companies are able to evaluate the students and determine
if they want to hire the student for a future full-time opportunity. Internships
can be paid or unpaid and may be eligible for academic credit.
The following websites provide internship listings. Students are also
encouraged to identify companies in their hometowns and initiate contacts
for internship opportunities. Many students have created their own internships
with companies that don't have formal programs. The key is to take initiative,
have an idea of what you want in an internship, and be creative and persistent.
