Athletic FacilitiesAlumni Stadium
The longtime home of the Saint Joseph's College football team was known as Saint Joseph's Field until 1993, when it was renamed Alumni Stadium. Located on the northeast end of the SJC campus, the stadium has a seating capacity of 4,000. Alumni Stadium was the site of the first overtime football
game in NCAA Division II history, a 28-21 loss to the University of Indianapolis
on Aug. 31, 1996. Richard F. Scharf Alumni Fieldhouse
Located just south of Alumni Stadium, the
fieldhouse seats 2,000 and also houses several offices. Rueth-Fitzgibbon Baseball Complex/
The current home of SJC's baseball team came to life in 1994. It is one of the premier Division II baseball facilities in the country. The press box behind the field also houses a locker room, offices and storage space. It is located on Sparling Avenue, west of the Hanson Recreation Center. The Pumas hosted the 1996 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships and the 2005 NCAA Division II North Central Regional Tournament at the complex. The field is named after the late Gil Hodges, who was a letter winner in four sports at SJC in the late 1930s. He went on to become a legendary major league baseball player and manager. Michael A. Vallone/Class of 1960
To the north of Gil Hodges Field lies the Michael A. Vallone/Class of 1960 Track and Field Complex. Construction on the facility began in the spring of 2000, and the complex saw its first meet, the first annual Puma Invitational, in May of 2001. SJC has also hosted the 2002 and 2006 Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as well as the 2004 State Games of Indiana. Joseph L. Minielli Memorial Field
Situated on the west end of the campus on Sparling Avenue, Joseph L. Minielli Memorial Field is home to the Pumas' men's and women's soccer teams. Their locker rooms are located across the street in the basement of Justin Hall. The field has served as the site of the Great Lakes
Valley Conference Championships as well as the first round of the Division
II NCAA Tournament. SJC Softball Field
Adjacent to the soccer field is the softball team's
home facility. The field has undergone a series of renovations in the
past few years. A new scoreboard was installed in 1999, a new fence and
permanent concrete dugouts were added in 2000, and bullpens were put in
on either side of the field in 2001. SJC Tennis Courts
Located directly south of Richard F. Scharf Alumni Fieldhouse are the SJC
tennis courts, which are used year-round by the Puma men's and women's tennis
teams. There are five courts, two of which are designed solely for singles
play. Hanson Recreation Center
The Hanson Recreation Center, known simply as 'the Rec Center' to the SJC community, came into being in 1986. The facility is used by the track and field, tennis, soccer, baseball and softball teams during the winter months for indoor workouts, and several intramural sports make use of the Rec Center as well. The facility is also open to faculty, staff, students, fellows and boosters during the school year. The Rec Center has a running and walking track, three
courts which can be used for basketball, tennis or volleyball, and locker
and shower facilities. Fitness Center Overlooking the Rec Center is the fitness center, which was added in the fall of 2000. It is open to faculty, staff and students during the school year. It has weight machines, treadmills, stationary bicycles,
elliptical trainers and other general fitness equipment. Raleigh Hall Weight Room
SJC's athletic teams are strengthened in the varsity weight room, located west of the Rec Center in Raleigh Hall. The weight room is also available to faculty, staff, students, fellows and boosters when it is not reserved for use by a varsity athletic team. The weight room was renovated in 2001, and houses a variety of free weights and weight machines, as well as cardiovascular equipment. Raleigh Hall is also home to offices for several varsity coaches as well as the SJC general athletics offices. Also located in Raleigh Hall are a classroom and a meeting room.
