Philosophy is the systematic, reasoned, analysis of the fundamental questions of reality, truth, and value. Since Philosophy is systematic and reasoned, the Philosophy curriculum at Saint Joseph’s College places great stress on developing logical reasoning, analytical skills, and the ability to coherently organize one’s thoughts. We learn these skills while examining the works of the major philosophers of the past and present, and the issues that occupy them. Consequently, the study of Philosophy at Saint Joseph’s prepares students for a number challenging and rewarding careers. Learning the method of philosophical inquiry is an excellent preparation for law school, speechwriter, analytical writing, college professor, and researcher, for example. Some career possibilities for philosophy graduates include missionary work, ministry, clergy, political analyst, member of an ethics board, and teacher or college professor.
