Why Art at SJC?
Variety: When studying Art at SJC, you can major in Art or Art Education. The Art Department offers classes in a wide range of fields including Drawing, Ceramics, Glass, Painting, Printmaking, Art History, and others.
- Art: If you want to pursue a career that will assist in developing your creativity, or just want to learn about the various types of self-expression, then the Art major is for you.
- Art Education: You can enrich your own abilities with diverse courses and become certified to teach Art in grades K-12.
Dedication to Excellence: The Art Department at SJC continually holds art shows where students can display their work. It is also affiliated with the Rensselaer Prairie Arts Council, a community arts program that involves SJC Art students in exhibitions and workshops.
Hands-on Experience: The faculty at SJC encourage all of their students to pursue internships. Common internships in the Art Department include the Prairie Arts Council and the Jasper County Youth Center.
Faculty and Class Size: Our Art and Education Departments consist of faculty who each hold at least a master's degree in their fields of expertise, in addition to having practical experience. Art classes at SJC range in size between 7 and 15 students to allow for personal instruction and training.
