Saint Joseph's College
Department of Chemistry

The Saint Joseph's College Department of Chemistry is proud of its tradition of outstanding instruction, excellent facilities, and equipment. The Department of Chemistry offers a Bachelor of Science degree. The department also fully participates in the interdisciplinary major in Biology/Chemistry. Dual majors in Chemistry and Mathematics can also be completed. The department works in close association with local allied health programs and education programs to ensure that courses meet student needs. Saint Joseph's College has a very high placement rate of students into professional schools, such as medicine and pharmacy, and into graduate schools across the country.

Lecture and laboratory classes are taught throughout the day. Laboratory class enrollments are limited to ensure a safe working environment, access to equipment, and close contact with the teacher.

The Department of Chemistry is located on the third floor of Science Hall. Excellent instrumentation is available, including UV-Vis, IR, and NMR spectrometers, calorimeters, and gas and liquid chromatographs. Students also have ready access to the College's mainframe computers and many campus and departmental personal computers.

During summer 2001, our Organic Chemistry laboratory was completely renovated. It was rebuilt with all new fixtures, hoods, and cabinetry. Much of the equipment in the lab is also new this fall.
