daily financial newspaper from London provides not only more
international coverage, but also a different perspective on events than
you will see from the typical US paper.
- International Herald Tribune
- One of the major English dailies covering international news and available in most countries.
- The New York Times
- The Wall Street Journal
- The Washington Post
- Nikkei Net
- The best site for current business news from Japan. The Nikkei Weekly is Japan's English publication similar to The Wall Street Journal.
- Wired News
- One of the best sites for high tech and Internet news. But there's also timely commentary on politics and economics.

- The
singular authority for current advertising and marketing news. The
annual Fact Packs are available as free downloads of .pdf files.
- Chicago Business
- The online version of the weekly Crain's Chicago Business.
- BusinessWeek Online
- Complete
business news site that includes material and daily updates not
available in the print edition. Often very good coverage of technology
issues.
- CNBC
- Good,
solid analysis of stock and bond market news, as well as some of the
best economic analysis from any major news organization. Go here for
good charts on stocks, bonds and currencies.
- The Economist
- Both a good general news magazine and a great place for international finance and economics news, data and commentary.
- Google Finance
- Like Yahoo! Finance, Google is offering a full complement of business news, investment commentary, and financial data.

- day. Often has short pieces explaining market movements.

- A very good site for learning about investments and for obtaining investment information.

- Good information and research on corporate and government bonds.
- The central bank for central banks.
- CIA World Factbook
- The CIA puts together good profile information on most countries.
- EconoMagic
- An
odd name for a site with very useful economic data. Find historical
time series for GDP, prices, interest rates, etc. - and you can
download it all in Microsoft Excel format.
- Economic Data Sources
- This is a list of sources made available on Yahoo!
- Economic Statistics Briefing Room
- A White House site providing current data on some key economic variables. A good overview of the current US economy.
- EDGAR Database
- The SEC compiles information and makes some of it available here.
- Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)
- A great source for banking statistics.
- Federation of Tax Administrators
Financial Forecast Center
- Lists forecasts for a variety of economic variables.
- Financial Services Facts
- Go here for big picture data on the financial services industry.
- InvestQuest
- One of many sites for stock quotes and information typically needed by investors.
- World Bank
- Another reasonable good source of basic country information.

- Brookings Institution
- A
non-profit research and educational institution covering a wide range
of social, political and economics topics. Generally, this has been one
of the leading institutions of modern liberal perspectives. (For the
conservative perspective, see Hoover below.)
- Cato Institute
- Cato
is the most prominent of several libertarian think tanks. It promotes
market solutions to economic problems and a dramatic reduction of the
amount of government intrusion into individuals' lives. Good
research materials on both US and international econ and finance
issues.
- Central Banks on the Internet
- A
list of central banks in dozens of countries. At those central bank
sites, you may find economic data on the country, as well as
information about banks and banking systems.
- Economic Institutes
- This is a list available on Yahoo! of various other economic institutes.
- Federal Reserve
- Main
page for the Fed's Board of Governors. Easy access from here to Fed
reports, data and other publications from the rest of the Fed system.
- Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis
- The St. Louis site also has a special section on banking and economic research.
- The Fraser Institute
- A good place for market-oriented studies of economic, financial and political issues facing Canada (as well as other countries).
- Foundation for Economic Education
- Their monthly publication, The Freeman, is available in the Saint Joe library. It covers a lot of topics but is aimed at the non-economist.
- Hoover's Online
- Hoover's,
Inc. has been a publisher of company information -- financials, market
share, businesses, etc. -- for a long time. Much of the good
information at this site is by subscription. But you may find what you
need anyway.
- Hoover Institution
- A
non-profit research and educational institution covering a wide range
of social, political and economics topics. Generally, this has been one
of the leading institutions of modern conservative perspectives. (For
the liberal perspective, see Brookings above.)
- The International Monetary Fund
- An international organization that is still hanging around even though its reason for existing disappeared in 1973.

- A lot of information available, but not as accessible as the sites above.
- The World Trade Organization (WTO)
- The organization established to help improve world trade and settle trade disputes.

- International Herald Tribune
- One of the major English dailies covering international news and available in most countries.
- The International Monetary Fund
- An international organization that is still hanging around even though its function disappeared in 1973.
- Japan Policy Research Institute
- This
is the home of the research work of Chalmers Johnson and his
supporters. Johnson is a political scientist who helped pioneer the
developmental state (the "third way") analysis of Japan. Materials here
cover economics and politics of Japan, Korea, China and some other
general Asia issues.
- Nikkei Net
- The best site for current business news from Japan.
- World Bank
- Another reasonable good source of basic country information.
- The World Trade Organization (WTO)
- The organization established to help improve world trade and settle trade disputes.
