Learn how to invest by, well, investing.

Open to all students from all majors, novice investors and those who are becoming investment savvy, the Investment Club is organized to serve these two goals:

  1. Educate novice investors about the fundamentals of the stock market allowing them to gain experience in the researching stocks and managing a portfolio of securities.
  2. Provide an opportunity for more experienced investors to learn more about investing and to add to their research and portfolio management experience.

To that end, the Club meets throughout the academic year to propose stocks of interest to individual members, evaluate those stocks using value-based investment analysis, and decide whether these stocks make sense for the Puma Fund, which began in 2003 with $10,000 from the College's endowment.

The Puma Fund
Started with $10,000 from the Saint Joseph's College endowment, the Puma Fund offers Club members a chance to learn by doing. Members managing the portfolio of stocks and money market cash funds on their own. To access the Google-based portfolio, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Google Finance here.
  2. Click on "Sign In" on the top right of the screen.
  3. Enter for e-mail: investment@saintjoe.edu.
  4. Enter for password: puma2007.
  5. Then you have access to "Portfolios" (again on the top right of the screen) and "Puma Fund."

To get a good feel for the kinds of stock in the portfolio choose to view it in "Fundamentals" mode. That will show P/E ratio, beta, etc.
